Tuesday Slice: I'm here; now what?

I tried starting a Slice last night, but it turned into a complaint about being tired.  So I'm starting over this morning...

Here I am at my keyboard at oh-dark-thirty.  Now what?

Still yawning.  Sips of coffee in between phrases.

No Muse landing on my shoulder, no wonderful childhood memory coming to mind.

Snippets.

Yesterday...The eyes of a child, filling with tears as she came to the library clutching her bag of money, two hours too late for the book fair, the crates that we feverishly packed in the background.  Not sure if the promise of the continuing online fair consoled her much.

My hands, dry from handling money and paper and books all week long.  I'll be applying lotion frequently today, since I'll be scrubbing in tonight for my first volunteer training session at the hospital.

The training session ends at nine tonight.  Long day ahead...which brings me back to feeling tired.  Quitting this post before it turns into a complaint...

  1. Snippets ... the vivid patches of color against long, gray hours, the vital extracts in the day-to-day story of living. I consider my entire blog "snippets of learning and life." The ones that surfaced here for you are so real that I want to reach out and pat that child's head, even as I hear the rasping roughness of your hands (now I need lotion, too! Empathy!). Our media specialist would heartily concur with the absolute exhaustion following the book fair. At least it is DONE. Here's to a resurgence of your strength today and for your volunteer session tonight - amazing! You clearly have more than one Muse guiding your thoughts, your steps, the work of your hands. Do make a bit of space just to bask in them and to give of yourself TO yourself. :)

  2. I too love your ramblings. Your words have so much heart behind them that I want to reach out and give you a hug!
Hopefully your volunteering tonight will fill you with energy!

  3. You hooked me w/ the absence of a muse. I get it. Every time I have an idea or an inspiration, I think about Elizabeth Gilbert's book "Big Magic" and try to seize the moment. I haven't been successful lately.

And that anecdote of the child arriving too late for the book fair hurt my heart. I hope she does discover the online sale and finds new words stitched in story to love.

  4. I, too, thought of "Big Magic" while reading your post. The muse is truly mysterious. This is a true Slice. It's all about where we are in the moment. Hang onto those snippets. you never know! -- Christie @ https://wonderingandwondering.wordpress.com/
