Tuesday Slice: I spoke up yesterday

There was this meeting
That ran too long
And meandered off track a bit
And covered a lot

And during this meeting
There were several pregnant pauses

And during a pregnant pause
I chose to say something
I had to say something

I even used the word "ridiculous"

I don't know if it made a difference
I don't know if it will make a difference

But I'm still glad I said it.

  1. Good for you for speaking your mind. I love the power of the word "ridiculous." May it help.

    1. I don't know if it will, Amanda...but at least I tried!

  2. I love the brevity and focus and force of this piece and the important message about being brave and speaking up at the core. I am more comfortable staying silent and fuming, usually, but I am aware that as a teacher educator, I need to be a model for my students, and I want them to be empowered so.... slowly but surely I keep taking steps to speak.

    1. I'm getting a little better, myself. It's hard to speak up in disagreement with those who evaluate us and can control the fate of our career.

  3. To remain silent is to approve. "Ridiculous" is a good word -- senseless, absurd, foolish, the opposite of reasonable. May others speak up with you.

    1. It's starting to happen a bit more, Alice. In this case, it was the purchase of curriculum given to teachers without training and/or time carved out to explore and integrate the contents.
