I almost tripped over
an unmatched black shoe
considered storing the pair
remembered death, always near.
****
My husband brought home
daffodils from grocery shopping
they are screaming spring
atop our Christmas tablecloth.
****
When I was tired
on this hazy Sunday
I struggled to nap,
ate a brownie, instead.
****
Wouldn't it be nice
if the pollinators would
collect all the pollen,
vacuum up the allergens?
I love the format of your slice! I think eating a brownie instead of napping, sounds like a great idea!
ReplyDeleteLoved the daffodils screaming spring. Glad I am not the only one who has Christmas stuff to still put away.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great format I had forgotten about. Oh if only those pollinators would vacuum up the allergens how much more I could enjoy spring!
ReplyDeleteLove this format - and your way with words - those last lines are all perfection
ReplyDeleteThese four-by-fours are a delight from start to finish, Chris. The one black shoe is haunting, with the need to save the pair as "death is always near" - and hopefully not from tripping on a shoe. Love the daffodils screaming atop the Christmas tablecloth and the brownie winning over the nap. Thank heaven we had a good rain yesterday, as the pine pollen was an inch deep on the cars and everything else!
ReplyDeleteThese are fantastic! They work well on their own and collectively. I like the visual contrast of the daffodils atop the Christmas tablecloth (on Palm Sunday), lol! I like the visual regarding the pollinators. It would make a fun comic.
