2017 SOLC Day 10: Overslept, but Spring Break's ahead

I awoke with a start at 502am, thirty-four minutes later than intended.  Questioning my radio alarm clock (did it even go off?  was the station coming in clearly?  did I hit the button and keep on sleeping?), I did my morning ablutions and realized that I had nine days of Spring Break ahead to figure out the alarm problem.

My mornings have long included almost an hour of quiet time before I have to prepare for work, so a half-hour late awakening doesn't faze me too much.  I might be more upset if I had gotten back in the routine of morning exercise, but an illness knocked me off track--another task for Spring Break.

My husband and I worked opposite shifts for almost two decades.  Since I was the early riser, I dressed in the dark so as not to disturb my beloved night shift worker.  I got into the habit of planning my outfits for a week or more ahead, laying out the next day's clothes the night before.  We've been on the same shift for four years now, but the habit stuck; no scrambling for clothes each morning.  This Spring Break, I'll be putting away the dark colors of winter and bringing out my bright pastels for spring and summer--that makes outfit planning fun, shopping in my own closet again.

Friday mornings in general are easier to navigate.  Blue jeans, school tee shirt, and sneakers are the uniform of the day.  And it's Lent, so I've chosen to fast (except for liquids) until dinner on Fridays--no breakfast or lunch to prepare.

Thirty-four minutes late, but I've got time to sip my coffee and write this post.  Spring Break starts in ten hours.  Life is good!

  2. I usually wake up before my alarm, or just as it starts buzzing, softly at first then growing louder. I didn't wake up today until it was buzzing at top volume. I was only seconds later than usual so I kept to my morning routine.

    1. I'm glad your morning went smoothly, Adrienne; I may need to switch to the buzzer, if the radio keeps giving out.

  4. Chris your morning routine brings strong connections. For the last 9 years my wife and I have awoken at 5.30 am in order to work in schools on the opposite side of the city. Like you we laid out the chosen clothes. You have endured and so have your preparatory habits it seems. I wish you peaceful mornings.
