SOLSC '16 Day Twenty-one: Where is the love?

Flour used to be on the shopping list monthly, along with butter, sugar, eggs, vanilla and other assorted extracts.  The counter was cleared for rolling out dough and filling cookie sheets and cake pans.

Now the Nordicware is getting dusty, as are the muffin trays and cookie sheets.  My usual schedule for spring baking--Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day--passed by on the calendar without a single batch of dough made.  I was going to bake this weekend for a baby shower today, and will have to run to the grocery store before work instead.

I used to love to bake!  I've blogged before about the zen state I can get into when my hands are in the flour.  Last year, I lamented the decrease in my baking time, so this is definitely a pattern.

Is my love for baking going away, or is it just life, getting in the way of a hobby?  I know what I was doing yesterday instead of baking--compliance training for work for over two hours.  I also spent over an hour prepping a homemade crockpot veggie soup (which was delicious!)...and doing laundry, watering the plants outside, getting my clothes ready for work,  and taking a nap because this time change is still hard for me.

Maybe life is just taking over.

  1. Awww... find the time to bake for you! If this is your art and your love, put it on the calendar and make a date to bake!

    1. I think I will do some baking this Good Friday, when we have another day off...sounds like an appropriate activity for a day of introspection.

  2. I agree with the person who commented before me. Make time for it. Even if you do the http://www.artisanbreadinfive.com. It makes things feel slower, more relaxed, and better. Do it, bake. I have a snow day today, come on over!

  3. I believe the military answer to what you wrote was, "Set your priorities". I did't realize how much time I was spending as a Volunteer at a local hospital until I quit. Wow, no news letter deadlines and no meetings. And, while it took some time to get used to, I enjoy the change. Still not bored between yard chores, clowning and going back to school!!! Only 2 classes signed up so far for the spring semester. Kathie was asked to be a Class Facilitator for one of them. As for today - Ole washer to neighbor, repair washer faucets before new washer arrives tomorrow, then distribute 200 pounds of top soil mostly in the back yard. What did I say about not being bored!!! Love ya, Dad.
