I want to play with a theme this time, a topic to cover or include in details as I mark this merry month of March...but what theme should I choose? The answer came to me last night on my way home from work. The details I was drawn to:
- a teeny tiny beetle on the back of my car, with a brown body and a red head. It flew off like a ladybug as I leaned in for a better look, zooming over my shoulder and ahead of my car, as if to say "follow me home!"
- three geese flying overhead in the dusk, stretching their necks north, a sure sign that warmer temps are heading that way
- as I stopped in traffic near the train station, a hawk swooped high in the sky and landed on a tall pole, scanning the area like a ruler surveying his kingdom and then flying off before I could grab my phone to record him
Flight, flying, the sky overhead, remembering to look up. My mind is already playing with ideas to incorporate these into my next thirty Slices. Let the SOLSC '18 begin!
Hey Chris, The best thing about slicing is how we are tuned into ideas and story and this post exemplifies that. You were tuned in to possibilities and these three events spoke to you so wonderfully. I can't wait to see where your slices fly this month!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Paula! Now the challenge is to keep finding connections....
DeleteI always love seeing the different approaches people take to slicing each year. I don't remember ever seeing any one write to a theme and it seems like a great idea to me. Can't wait to see how your theme takes off. May you fly extra high!
ReplyDeleteWe'll see how tight or loose this theme plays out; 30 more days to see if it works!
DeleteLove your theme! So many possibilities. I can't wait to see where your thoughts lead you as we fly into March.
ReplyDeleteI know, right, Ramona? There's got to be a lot I can do with this...I hope...
DeleteI am going to try to write from a theme this month, too, and I'm so inspired by your attention to detail (a weakness of mine). Thank you for remembering me to look carefully and be still. Here we go!!!
ReplyDeleteLisa, can't wait to see what you pick and where it leads you!
DeleteI love the idea of looking for a theme! I tend to notice one small detail and unravel a theme from that; I think the idea of looking for patterns is an awesome one, and I might have to steal it. (I'll be sure to give you credit, of course. :)
ReplyDeleteAs a librarian, connections are my life--always looking to link readers to the just-right-for-them books, staff members to helpful resources. I'm hoping this strength leads to some good flight/sky related posts this month! Good luck to you, too!
DeleteChris,
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness. I love the theme you ended up picking. I really like that you chose to break down your discovery of your theme into three small moments. It really drew me in. I can't wait to see how you weave it into the rest of your posts.
Thanks, Cori! Love when the Muse strikes. And then we have that lovely full moon tonight--perfect fodder for my post tomorrow morning. Isn't this fun, doing this SOLSC together? :-)
